The Children’s Museum of Southeastern Connecticut and Dreamup Toys are teaming to host a wooden train and building block build-a-thon on Friday, July 11th, 4-8 p.m.
Families with children ages 2+ are invited to the build-a-thon where we will attempt to build the largest multi-level wooden railway!
Dreamup Toys, a newly formed East Lyme-based company, will be featuring their new Wooden Railway Block Platform, which ties together wooden train sets and classic building blocks. Dreamup Toys develops educational toys that cleverly foster inventiveness, creativity and resourcefulness. Dreamup Toys was founded by Tom Chantrell who grew up in East Lyme, CT and resides there today.
Inspiration came for the company while he and his children were trying to use construction toys to make supports for a multi-level wooden train layout and it just wasn’t working. The final creation was too wobbly and frustrating for the children to use. During that experience he had a thought, kids don’t ever play with toys in isolation – they mix and match and use their imaginations. That thought turned into a vision for a company. With his business partner, Richard Schlueter, they began development on their first product, which will be featured at the build-a-thon.
Admission for the build-a-thon is $1 per person. To register, call (860) 691-1111 or visit cmsect.org or dreamuptoys.com for more information. All building materials will be provided, just bring your builders!
